Bursting Discs
Bursting discs (also known as rupture discs) protect process equipment and vessels from overpressurisation or potentially damaging vacuum conditions. Bursting discs can be regarded as a cheap alternative to safety valves. Bursting discs are often used in combination with safety relief valves (underneath valves), which protects them from the process. Bursting discs are not required to undergo yearly tests by the Office of Technical Inspection.
